In Studio with Katie Jameson

a few months back we got the sweetest email from katie jameson, a budding lifestyle and fashion photographer based in austin. we met for drinks and clicked immediately! she told me about her blog series "made with love" and asked if we'd be interested in letting her photograph us making floral magic in the studio. of course we said yes! she stopped by the day we were creating arrangements for the garment store opening party. below are just a few of the fantastic images and the full post can be found here. enjoy!

desert blooms

have you ever been so set on an idea, so sure of your vision one moment and in an instant know you were completely mistaken? my fiance and i recently took a trip out to big bend. before the trip i thought i knew exactly what our wedding would look like. a dark palette of rich berry and jewel tones to contrast the vast openness of the desert. but as soon as we turned down the windy ranch road to our lodge at sunset a new vision became clear. sky blues, whimsical whites, dusty oranges and soft greens flashed before my eyes and it was perfect.

the white prickly poppy is one of my favorites. although technically a weed, it blooms a fluffy white flower in the spring with a vibrant yellow center. if its bluish colored stems weren't covered in thorns i would have snatched up entire bouquets of these beauties!

bluebonnets are texas' state flower and can be found lining highways across the state for miles and miles. their tall, ombre blooms pop against the rocky terrain of big bend.

these tiny, orange poppies grow low and bushy. i came across many of them during our hikes out to different ceremony sites. they're subtle and soft and cast an orange glow across large areas of mountainside.

ocotillo cactus are giant, wiry plants that can grow up to 30 feet tall! when we were driving into the national park they spanned vast areas of land from the road to the base of the mountains. lucky for us they were in bloom with vibrant, reddish orange tips poking out above the horizon.

early one morning i found these little gems hiding outside our cabin. they are members of the evening primrose family but differ because they bloom during the day. as the day turns to night they crinkle and change colors from yellow to pink to rusty orange. absolutely stunning!

i left the area feeling inspired by its beauty. we will meet again next spring when the earth is blooming once again with life and love! until then, viva terlingua!

plant knowledge

last night i spent time with my sweet friend jonny flipping through his old wildlife field research book of pressed flowers. the delicate beauty of each entry had me mesmerized and incredibly inspired to learn more about plants and flowers.

i am realizing more and more that flowers are a true passion of mine. i want to know everything! jonny agreed to make flower dates with me and help fill my head with all his flora knowledge. this feels like the start of something real!
